V Type Strip Seal Expansion Joint About

A V-Type Strip Seal Expansion Joint is a bridge expansion-joint system designed to accommodate longitudinal movement, expansion, contraction, vibration, and small rotations between adjacent bridge deck sections.

Main Components

1. V-Type Elastomeric Seal
   • Flexible rubber seal with a V-shaped profile.
   • Prevents rainwater, dust, debris and other materials from entering the joint.
   • Allows the joint to open and close with bridge movement.
2. Steel Edge Beams
   • Steel profiles are installed on both sides of the joint.
   • They hold the rubber seal securely.
   • Transfer traffic loads around the joint area.
3. Anchoring System
   • Anchor bars/studs connect the edge beams to the concrete deck.
   • Provides stability and load transfer.
4. Concrete/Mortar Bedding
   • Supports and locks the joint assembly into the bridge deck.

Working Principle

When the bridge expands, the joint opening becomes smaller and the V-shaped rubber seal compresses.

When the bridge contracts, the joint opening increases and the V-shaped seal stretches/open outs while maintaining its sealing function.
