A T Type Strip Seal Expansion Joint is a specialized expansion joint system used mainly in bridges, flyovers, and elevated roads, designed to absorb structural movements caused by temperature changes, shrinkage, creep, and traffic loads while also preventing water, debris, or chemical infiltration into the substructure.
T-Shape Edge Beams (Steel)
Typically made of structural steel conforming to IS or ASTM standards.
Cast or embedded in concrete at the expansion joint edge.
The top of the T acts as the support for vehicular loads, while the vertical leg holds the elastomeric strip.
Elastomeric Strip Seal (EPDM / Neoprene)
Fits into the cavity formed between the T-beams.
Flexible and watertight, allowing movement in multiple directions.
Resistant to UV, ozone, oil, chemicals, and temperature fluctuations.
Easily replaceable without removing steel components.
Anchoring System
Consists of bolts or welds to fix the T-beams to the deck.
Ensures the joint is locked in place during thermal or mechanical movement.
